We are planning a visit feb 2014 for our daughters 10th birthday and we would like to surprise her with a character dinner or lunch….we do not stay on the property as we have other accommodations…can something like this be planned?

Dining reservations may be made 180 days in advance. The reason that you could run into trouble securing a reservation at a more popular restaurant like Cinderella’s Royal Table or Chef Mickey’s is because folks that opt to stay on property may make all of their dining reservations 180 days before they check-in at their hotel, which puts them a few days ahead of you for reservation purposes. My suggestion would be to call 407-WDW-DINE 180 days before your selected date and see what availability they have for that day. There are so many amazing character dining experiences that I can safely say that you will be able to find something your daughter will enjoy for her 10th birthday!
